Smith were asked to design the invitations and programme for the first Arts & Business East Awards. Entitled 'The Best', it was to showcase the very best collaborations across the East of England between arts organisations, artists and commerce.

The commission was the result of a free creative pitch process.

The ceremony was to be held in the newly refurbished Restoration Theatre in Bury St Edmunds. Therefore, it was important that the design and production of the accompanying materials reflected both the cudos of the event and its opulent setting.

First off, Smith created a word marque for the event, incorporating the ampersand from the Arts & Business logo. This, combined with a use of gold embossing and a specially drawn pattern redolent of the theatre’s lush roccoco interiors, formed the basic overall 'look'. The theme of  ‘partnerships’ was then subtley applied across the print materials by using complimentary pairings such as patterned and plain surfaces, vivid and sober colour schemes and gloss and matt finishes. The result: a suite of materials of the highest quality that perfectly matched a special evening and setting.
